The app that could get you a diagnosis quicker than your GP

These days, even getting a GP appointment can be a challenge. But once you’re in the doctor’s, getting a diagnosis can be even more difficult.

Getting a life insurance policy with AIG means that you will have access to a whole range of amazing benefits which can help you in several different areas of life. Keep reading to find out more about AIG and how their app could help you in real life.

The app that has it all

It’s strange to think that an app could help with something so serious, like a doctor's appointment or even a diagnosis. But *Smart Health can do that and so much more. According to AIG’s health and wellbeing research, 2 in 3 people agree that they struggle to get an appointment at a time that suits them. Smart Health can combat this by helping you get a policy as fast as possible.

Smart Health is the all singing, all dancing app that you get free access to when you take out a policy with leading life insurance provider, AIG. With Smart Health, you will receive access to 24/7 UK-based online GP’s, like the one Dionne spoke to, get free mental health support, health checks and even tailored fitness/nutrition advice. In Dionne’s case, Smart Health was crucial in getting her (now 9 year-old) daughter, Sky, diagnosed as fast as they did. To find out more about Smart Health, click the button below.

How it all works

Before she booked her Smart Health appointment and a month before Sky’s diagnosis, Dionne had been noticing some changes in her youngest daughter - she needed to use the toilet more often, was thirsty all the time and frequently tired. Then Sky was off school sick and then again a week later and after seeing the other changes in Sky over the course of a few weeks enough was enough - Dionne knew something wasn’t right with her little girl.

Going off her trusty mother’s instinct and worried about Sky’s health Dionne remembered she had access to free, 24/7 GP appointments with AIG (her life insurance provider). Within a matter of minutes, she had booked an appointment on the Smart Health app.

By using Smart Health to book yourself a GP appointment, you can usually get an appointment on the same day and Dionne did exactly that. Later that evening a UK-based GP called Dionne back and the online appointment that followed was crucial in getting Sky a speedy diagnosis.

What happens during the appointment?

Everyone’s appointment with Smart Health will differ and it will also depend on what you need to speak to the GP about (basically just like any other GP appointment). Although your appointment will be online, this doesn’t mean the medical professional you speak to won’t be able to really help you. Even just looking at Dionne and Sky, for example, their online appointment was fundamental in ensuring Sky got her diagnosis as quickly as she did.

During the online appointment, Dionne was amazed at how easy it all was. “They diagnosed it on the phone and believed diabetes is what it was - they also cleared any red flags which put my mind at ease. During the appointment, they advised me to go to my own GP the next day and take urine samples with me and request blood tests.”

How Smart Health made all the difference

Armed with a provisional diagnosis from Smart Health, Dionne went to her GP the next day. Dionne recalls how Smart Health made all the difference for Sky’s diagnosis, “If I hadn’t had the online consultation, things might not have developed so quickly. The online appointment helped me get the ball rolling with the doctors as I already had a provisional diagnosis - it got them to act quicker. If I had waited for my GP appointment, I would have been waiting for at least two weeks - I don’t know what might have happened in that time.” Without Smart Health on their side and with how long they could have waited for a GP appointment, Sky could have become seriously ill.

Dionne had completely forgotten that she had access to Smart Health, “I was very grateful for my online appointment which was really easy to book too. I had forgotten all about it and remembered whilst I was lying in bed worrying. It helped get us her (Sky’s) diagnosis so I really am grateful. The rest is history really!”
