A week of marketing work experience at Caspian
Introduction
I am doing my work experience at Caspian Insurance mainly because my dad works at
Caspian and he would really enjoy me working there.
But also, because I knew I was going to
learn a lot at this placement and I have learnt loads, including how the business runs, how to
deal with customers, how the marketing aspect of the business runs and overall, a lot about
life insurance.
Before I arrived for my work experience, I was quite nervous, but those nerves
quickly went away as when I got to meet and get to know everyone. Everyone is really friendly
and down to earth.
More about me
I am a 15-year-old student at Marple Hall School. All the year 10’s at the end of the year are asked to do work experience to get a feel about what the working environment is like and to help you figure out what path you want to go down once you leave school.
Monday
Today was my first day and as soon as I got into the office, I met Kerry and we did an
introduction into the business, what it is all about and what I will be up to for the next week.
After that, I got to meet Hayley and we went over more information in more detail about
marketing and then i did a PowerPoint presentation on different competitors. When that was
finished at around midday, I then went for my lunch at KFC and then came back.
Once I was
back I listened to a pre-recorded business call of someone at Caspian giving a customer life insurance advice. I learnt a lot from this because then I knew more about how Caspian helps their customers. To finish the day off I ended on looking at different ads for IGotCover and
putting them on a PowerPoint presentation of the ones I liked and why.
Tuesday
This morning, I arrived at 8:30am and met Emily and the rest of the marketing team which was
nice. Today the plan was to go outside and film videos of Nige for IGotCover ads. But first we
had to print off lines that Nige had to say in the videos so he can read them while we filmed.
After that was all done, we went into a meeting room with me, Nige, Emily and Hayley so Nige
could know the basics of what he will be doing today. Once that was all done, we headed
outside to get all the filming done but most of it was filmed inside as it was raining outside but
we got it all done in just under 2 hours. To finish off, I went for my lunch break at Nando’s with
my dad at around half 2 and then came back into the office and wrote these Daily Diary entry
paragraphs.
Wednesday
Today, I got to the office and started with doing some flyers on Canva, 1 on life insurance, 1 on
critical illness cover and 1 on income protection.
After I finished that I did 3 different ad ideas
on Canva, 1 aimed at mums, 1 aimed at dads and 1 aimed at homeowners who are all looking
for life insurance. After that, I went for my lunch at Bills with my mum who got the train in to
meet me. When I got back, I started writing this paragraphs and then headed to the train
station.
Thursday
This morning, I arrived at 8:30am and got straight into organising blogs which I really enjoyed
learning how to do. After that I started doing a presentation on Canva of everything I have done
and learnt all week.
Once that was finished, I went for my lunch with my dad at Slim Chickens
which was really nice. Then I came back and finished off my presentation on Canva.
When I finished that I started writing this paragraph and then said bye to everyone and headed to the
station after a great week.
Summary
Overall, I really enjoyed my week at Caspian and I learnt loads! My favourite days were
Tuesday and Thursday because on Tuesday I went out and filmed clips for IGotCover ads with
Emily and Nige and it was really fun.
On Thursday I enjoyed all my tasks that I was doing and it
was a great last day. Also I love all the people here everyone was so welcoming and nice at it
was such a great atmosphere.
